In response to Generation X doesn't want to hear it

You guys seen this one? It's been making the rounds.

I gave it some thought, read it a few times, and was still upset enough by the whole thing to write about it.



Here's my response:
Fuck you, you jealous, apathetic bastard.
While this generation is busy protesting, your generation squandered an amazing inheritance, fought for by your parents. The Boomers fought for a better life for their children. They struggled with civil rights, desegregation, equality, and war, so that you would have a better life. And what did you do with it? Nothing. It was your apathy that allowed Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Obama to dismantle Glass-Steagle and the New Deal.
Where were you when the Internet bubble burst? 
Where were your protests about how Wall St. artificially inflated IPOs of tech companies so a handful of people could get richer? 
Where were you during the housing bubble? Oh yeah, you were out flipping houses, hoping you got yours before the whole thing came down.

I hate to break it to you, but you were adults when Bush, 9/11, and Iraq and Afghanistan came along. You were there, watching the housing bubble happen, participarting. On the other hand, the people whose futures you mortgaged had no say. You were adults. You had your chance. You fucked it up. Don't get upset because the next generation doesn't like the shitty hand you've helped deal.
Instead of standing up and saying, 'This isn't right. We're leaving our children with a mountain of debt, huge numbers of environmental problems, a political system which doesn't listen to them because they don't have money,' what you did was... nothing. So fucking typical of Generation X. 

You do nothing, and when people around you stand up for themselves to say it's not good enough, you give them a hard time because you aren't brave enough, energized enough, caring enough, or compassionate enough to do it yourself.
You allowed the greatest apathy in American memory stop you from giving a shit -- Bread and circuses is all you cared about. As long as you were being entertained on TV, who cared what happened outside your living room window? It's not your problem.

Well, guess what. You're right. Your problem became your children's problem. Your problem became the next generation's problem. And unlike you, they're man enough to do something about it.

So shut the fuck up, you whiny bitch.
